The ongoing combat against kidnapping and robbery by the Nigerian Police in some part of the south-south states, seems to be making headway as four female corps member, kidnapped during the weekend
The incident was confirmed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam, who explained that the four corps members were abducted by hoodlums who broke into their transit camp at Iriebe.
He further revealed that the hoodlums stole phones, laptops and other valuables belonging to corps members at the camp before escaping with their hostages.
He said the prompt intervention of the Police who gave the hoodlums a hot chase, forced them to abandon their hostages at Oyigbo and escaped into the bush.
Some of the corps members who sustained minor injuries were taken to the state hospital and are responding to treatment.
"Information was received that a gang of seven armed bandits gained entrance into a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, transit camp at Iriebe through the fell part of the fence. They stole phones, laptops and cash belonging to the corps members. The hoodlums also abducted four of the female corps members. The Police at Oyigbo gave them a hot chase towards Egbelu/Oyigbo axis. They abandoned the girls as the Police closed in on them."
