 Poor sleep, poor memory
Poor sleep, poor memory
Researchers from UC Berkley have found that poor sleep may make memories get stuck in old age. A discovery that opens the doors to new ways of boosting sleeping time in old people. Scientists have found out that slow brain waves generated during the deep sleep typical of the youth play a key role in trasporting memories from the hyppocampus, responsible for short-term memory to the prefrontal cortex, responsible for long-term stored information. With age, our sleep deteriorates causing a consequent lack in the quality of brain waves that leads to amnesia. The newly learned information being cancelled. This finding may be important for studies tied to dementia.
